How we think about measuring Scope 3

Network diagram representing a supply chain

A question we get a lot: how do you actually calculate this stuff? Here’s the short version of our approach.

Start spend-based, get activity-based

Most companies can only start from what they already have: spend data. So we do too — mapping purchases to emission factors for a fast first estimate. Then, supplier by supplier, we replace those estimates with activity-based data (actual quantities, actual products) wherever it exists.

Be honest about uncertainty

Every number on our platform carries a data-quality signal. An estimate built from industry averages is not the same as a supplier-specific measurement, and we refuse to pretend otherwise.

Aligned with the standards

We follow the GHG Protocol Scope 3 categories so our outputs are comparable, auditable, and ready for reporting frameworks like CSRD and SBTi.

The goal isn’t a report

Measurement is the means, not the end. Everything we build points at one question: what’s the next, highest-impact thing this company can do to cut emissions?

More technical deep-dives to come.
